Chapter 7 · 7.12
The default email account of your package
In the list under E-mail Accounts, there's always an address you didn't create yourself, with the green Default label. It starts with your DA username, for example wtsilefl@yourdomain.com. This is the default email account of your package. Customers often ask what this is and whether it can be removed.

What is the default account?
DirectAdmin automatically creates this account for every package. It belongs to your DA user and is mainly intended for system messages from the server. You don't need to do anything with it and you can simply ignore it.
What can and can't you do?
- You can't delete it and can't rename it.
- You can't change the quota.
- The password is always the same as your DA password. If you change your DA password (see Setting or changing your DA password), this changes along with it.
- To log in with it in webmail or an email program, use only the DA username as the username, without @ and domain. In webmail, enter the server name of your package under Server (see Finding your server name and DA user name).
Should I use it?
No, preferably not. For your own mail, always create a regular email address, such as info@ or your own name (see Creating an e-mail address). That has its own password, you can give it a clear name, and it's separate from your DA password. If you'd still like to check whether there are any system messages in the default account, simply log in via webmail as described above.
Tip: Do you receive mail from DirectAdmin itself, such as notifications that a backup is ready? These also appear under Message Area in the DirectAdmin menu (see Messages in DirectAdmin).
